Biology of metastasis: functional, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects
Metastatic disease is the principle cause of death of cancer patients, and for most common tumor types good regimes for treating overt metastases are still lacking. Early detection of metastatic tumor cells, development of new treatment strategies, and knowledge about how to prevent cancer metastasis are some of the most challenging tasks in cancer research. Our research activities are spanning from studies of different factors involved in causing loss of growth control in tumorigenic cells, to biological characterization of the metastatic phenotype as well as detection, prognostication and therapy of metastatic disease
