Head of Dept. of Radiation Biology, Inst. for Cancer Research

 

The position as Head of Department of Radiation Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital is vacant from October 1, 2010. The department has currently 5 research groups and approximately 50 employees. The research activities aim at understanding the response to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on the molecular, cellular and physiological levels, as well as utilizing this knowledge in optimizing current and designing new strategies for the treatment of cancer. The research therefore involves basic and translational radiation biology as well as participation in clinical studies (see http://www.rr-research.no/radiationbiology).

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate strong scientific merits within the field of radiation biology of cancer at the professor level, administrative and scientific leadership experience as well as international collaboration capabilities. The department head will be responsible for HR, economy and the scientific activities of the department and will report to the Director of Institute for Cancer Research. The department head will also be a part of the Institute management team and is assumed to actively participate in developing the Institute’s scientific strategy and activities.

The Institute with its 320 employees and students is the major cancer research centre in Norway. The Institute is part of Division of Surgery and Cancer Treatment, consisting of five clinical and two research entities with altogether 2000 employees, one of nine divisions of Oslo University Hospital, the largest hospital in Northern Europe.

The application should be accompanied by a CV, list of publications and copies of 10 selected papers, a short description of the applicant’s own research as well as copies of diplomas and other relevant documentation of education, scientific and administrative achievements.
